New Jersey’s most practical blue-crab access is in tidal rivers and protected back bays. This guide favors documented public piers over bridge shoulders, private docks or vague marina recommendations.
Barnegat Bay
Mantoloking Bridge County Park, Seaside Park, Lavallette and Ship Bottom provide documented public bay access at different points along the system.
Navesink and Shrewsbury rivers
Red Bank and nearby Monmouth County waterfronts can provide tidal-river access. Confirm municipal rules and never crab from a bridge where NJDOT prohibits it.
Cape May back bays
Wildwood and Middle Township have bay and sound access, but construction and municipal-hours information should be rechecked before travel.
Rules and health restrictions
Check the current minimum size, recreational bushel limit and pot requirements. Harvest and consumption are permanently prohibited in the Newark Bay complex; consult the state map for exact affected waters.
