Crabbing in Galveston: Public Bay Access and Advisories

Galveston crabbing is best planned around legal public bay access and the current seafood-advisory map. Rollover Pass is not a current access recommendation; use managed parks and facilities whose status can be verified.

Galveston Island State Park

Access: bay-side shoreline, paddling trails and marsh habitat. Confirm where traps or handlines may be used with park staff and keep equipment outside paddling routes.

Seawolf Park

Access: city-managed waterfront on Pelican Island. Check current fishing fees, hours and posted gear rules before traveling.

Beyond the island

Sea Rim State Park and Goose Island State Park are documented alternatives for a broader Texas coast trip; they are not nearby backup stops.

Health-advisory context

Texas maintains an active consumption advisory for portions of the Houston Ship Channel and upper Galveston Bay. Some underlying orders date to 2013 but remain on the state’s current list. Check the exact affected waters and species rather than treating the entire Galveston coast as uniformly closed or safe.

Legal catch

Blue crab must meet the current 5-inch rule and egg-bearing females must be released. Use only legal devices and follow marking and attendance requirements.
